The Venice art that made my heart go boom:

Ugo Rondinone at Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista. I love Ugo. These spectacular illuminated blue bodies floating in the church are just

Chun Kwang Young at Palazzo Contarini Polignac - I first noticed and loved his work years ago at the Hong Kong art Basel, so it's v exciting to have found him again.

Anselm Kiefer at the Doge's Palace: no word to describe the scale and beauty of this work. A must must must see. Even if you have to traipse through every room in the Palace to get to THE room.

Anish Kapoor at Accademia + Palazzo Manfrin: Incredible in many ways, worth looking at and wondering (and still wondering) what it all means.

Carole Feuerman at Santa Maria Della Pietà: just love her figures, so beautiful to look at.

The Brazil pavilion at the Giardini: many hundreds of Potuguese sayings, translated into Italian and English, with related artworks and drawings. Funny and surprising and needed more time.

Also really worth a visit - This is Ukraine: defending freedom at Scuola Grande della Misericordia and The Dutch Pavillion 'when the body says yes' at the nearby Chiesetta della Misericrodia.

And we shvitzed all the way every day!

Lisa 🥵

P.s and there was so much we couldn't get to and missed!! You can only do what you can do in 4 days in Venice!

It's very exciting. This weekend is the Jewish festival of eating cheesecake, aka Shavuot.
Read all about it (and it's not really JUST about cheesecake), and find links to all our favourite recipes (and not necessary but def better if you have all our books!) in our Shavuot roundup - click on the sked link in our profile.

This is Frojalda, Turkish Cheese Bread, and it is SO BLOODY GOOD. You can find the recipe in Now for Something Sweet (savory chapter😊) on our youtube channel under the video. You will also find the link to that video in our profile.

Enjoy all the cheese!

This is 'Not my Aunties' cheesecake' cheesecake.
A ricotta lattice cake.

Decades ago, as a young girl, I was obsessed with my Aunties’ (Leah and Myrna) cheesecake. It was dense but light, not too sweet and had a pastry lattice on the top. I was given a scribbled version of the recipe (without a method) some years later and I have never been able to recreate it. I spent weeks last year trying out different iterations of the cheese cakes from our books along with several different dough recipes and I have ended up with this: a glorious ricotta cheesecake that reminds me of the old world and of my dear aunties.

This is what you'll need:
PASTRY
200 g (7 oz) self-raising flour
85 g (3 oz) cold unsalted butter, chopped
1 1/2 tablespoons caster (superfine) sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 egg yolk
50 g (1 3/4 oz) sour cream

FILLING
400 g (14 oz) ricotta, drained if wet, or quark cheese
115 g (1/2 cup) caster (superfine) sugar
4 eggs, separated
150 g (5 1/3 oz) sour cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon plain flour
pinch of salt

Also
20 cm (8 inch) springform tin
Preheat the oven to 170℃ (340℉)
Rolling pin
Food processor (optional but better)
Mixmaster (sorry to ask for both!) or a whisk and a strong arm

See you Friday!

Sydney peeps, it's time to make the s'wich.

The brand new @eatswich Bondi has just opened this week.

And you just need to go.

It is sandwich heaven. Can highly rec the S'wich schnit and the three cheese toastie. And I can't wait to try more! The salads also look fabulous and fresh and you all know how much I looove a good salad.

Hugest congrats to @jayfink @jordanabram 👏👏 - bloody brilliant concept and design (hats off to @studioshand) - you've made your delicious dream a reality.

Heading there again soon, got my eye on the three cheese toastie with a Campari soda on the side for the perfect late arvo summer snack.

Many of you know I have been on the growing 'don't buy Tassie salmon' bandwagon since reading Richard Flanagan's book Toxic about a year ago. It was shocking to see the state of the industry, and even more shocking that we thought we were eating something that was really good for us. This just-released video has strengthened my resolve (which I have to admit was waning as I am not sure how much impact we have all had) to continue and to spread the word.

Please share this post, or any post supporting this stand, it is such an important message - especially for those of us who used to love eating Tassie salmon.

And sadly this also applies to all the smoked salmon from Tassie including @huonsalmon which we all used to love.

Click on the link in our profile for the original @neighbours_of_fish_farming video. 🙏🏻 @joostbakker for posting the video, that's where I first saw it.

I have been buying NZ king salmon @regalsalmonnz @orakingsalmon and @alpinesalmon (Mt Cook, NZ, can buy at @harrisfarmmarkets) and exploring many other fish options. Check out @goodfishproject for an excellent guide to what we should be buying here in Aus.

We also need to rally the big buyers in Aus - @colessupermarkets @woolworths_au to stop buying farmed Tassie salmon until the industry has been cleaned up.

(btw when we were in beautiful Tassie last year, not one restaurant we went to served salmon. Doesn't that say something?)
