This is the Israeli pavilion at the Venice Biennale. It is closed.

Israeli artist Ruth Patir has taped this to the door:
‘The artist and curators of the Israeli pavilion will open the exhibition when a cease-fire and hostage release agreement is reached’.

Here’s a bit of Israeli biennale history. In 1948 Israeli Jewish painters first participated under the Erez Israel, Artisti Palestinesi pavilion sponsored by Italian Jews.
In 1950, Israel opened its own pavilion.
There are 29 countries who have their own, including Australia.

In the lead-up to this year’s biennale, there were (sadly yet unsurprisingly) calls for a boycott of the Israeli pavilion including a letter signed by over 22,000 artists and cultural workers.

Thankfully, Italy’s culture minister Sangiuliano labelled calls for boycott as ‘shameful’: ‘The Venice Biennale will always be a space of freedom, meeting and dialogue and not a space of censorship and intolerance. Culture is a bridge between people and nations, not a dividing wall.’

This is hope.

I don’t care about the political implications of where this speech is taking place, I care that thousands of Americans shouted ‘Bring them home’ and gave Hersh’s parents a standing ovation.

They are not alone.
We are not alone.
This is a humanitarian issue, not a poltiical one.
109 hostages need to come home.
And they need to come home NOW.

And what a story.

A trailblazing athlete - two Olympic gold medals for Australia!
A powerful leader and former politician.
A truth teller.
A true friend of the Jewish people.

Nova embodies so many values and principles that are deeply cherished in Jewish culture. Her story is not only inspiring but also a reminder of the universal values that can and do connect diverse communities.

Thank you Nova for your ongoing support for Israel and the Jewish community. It means the world to so many of us.

This video made me cry for so many reasons.

It is an ad which will be shown on prime time TV in France during the Olympics.

It’s unfathomable that in 2024 there is even a need to make an ad like this.
Un-bloody-fathomable!

The level of hate we have seen directed at Jewish people and Zionists (and their friends) across the world is beyond belief.
(If you’re not clear, a Zionist is simply someone who believe the State of Israel has a right to exist as a homeland for the Jewish people.)

And in France, it is so bad that this type of ad is required. WTAF.

The amount of antisemitism/antizionism (yes they are the same) we see here at the moment in Australia is actually crazy!

To those of you who are Jewish and to those of you (wonderful people!) who are not but still stand by Jewish people, please continue to stand up and fight for what’s right. In whatever way you can. Social media, sharing stories, telling friends, writing letters, writing comments, liking posts, calling out bad behaviour…

We cannot allow this to continue and we cannot allow what’s happening in France to happen here.

Give me a blue heart if you’re with me on this 💙 and, if you are, I love you 💙💙 and thank you.
