Today I turned 60.
Crazy, huh? (Yes I think so too!)

I’m grateful for so many things.
I’m grateful that I live in one of the most beautiful cities in one of the best countries in the world.
I’m especially grateful for my wonderful family and friends (and my dog Winston).

But it’s a really tough time to celebrate as it feels like the world is falling apart.
My country has changed. It feels like a divided nation with so many fuckers just full of so much hate.
And the ongoing hostage situation and war in Gaza is unfathomable and devastating.
I have managed to step away from the news/instagram for the day today to enjoy this HUGE😳milestone. I’ve done all the things I love to do (walk, eat, chat, drink, eat some more and start the day with a spicy bloody Mary) with almost all of the people I love the most. What more could I ask for?

Well, since you asked, I have 3 tiny wishes for my birthday, and unsurprisingly they are all related to Israel:
1/ I wish that each and every one of the hostages comes home now,
2/ I wish that Israel completely demilitarizes Hamas ASAP so the war can end, and
3/ I wish that the Palestinian people acknowledge Israel’s right to exist and just let Israel live in peace.
Not too much to ask?

This year, international Women’s Day says something different.

We can celebrate being part of a community of amazing, strong resilient Jewish women in Melb, Sydney and across the world.

But we are devastated that much of the world is silent about the 19 women still held hostage in Gaza.
And silent about what happened to the women at the hands of the Hamas barbarians in Israel on 7 October.

And silent about so much more.

There are still 19 innocent women, young and old, held captive and it’s time to #bringthemhome.

We will continue to stand up and fight for what we believe.
And of course continue to fight to bring home ALL of the 134 hostages - and to bring them home NOW.

Yesterday’s Melbourne rally was equally inspiring and devastating. A shoutout to the brilliant women who organized such a moving and important rally. So good to hear strong words from @clammy_fraud. I feel so lucky to have been there to be able to be part of it and it was so good to meet a few of the incredible Melbourne women who inspire me every day.

There is just so much out there that I can’t understand. I mean REALLY can’t understand. Like WTF is happening in our seemingly-previously-sane world!?!

But the thing today that I am really not getting is this: I don’t understand why the ‘free Palestine’ movement doesn’t want to free the people from Hamas.

Anyone?

(And the sad thing is, we all know the answer)

There’s something I need to share with you all.

It’s been very hard to get back to food content as I am all-consumed with everything that’s going on. I’ve been consumed with the two wars we’re fighting at the moment - the one in Gaza, started by Hamas and the one in Australia, started by the anti-Israel/anti-Zionist movement masquerading as pro-Palestinian.
I can’t even think about the rest of the diaspora ATM, it’s too much, and it’s devastating.

But here is something I am ready to share. Actually, need to share!

The very clever and charismatic @fastedmedia has opened a bakery in Surry Hills (Sydney) called @avnersbakery and we should all be VERY excited. I finally got there yesterday😊😊😊.

This is the rugelach and I am sorry I’ve got 3 pics of it but I’m in love. Amazing pastry, fabulous chocolate filling, just the right level of sweetness, so perfect. And it’s huge!
The bagel and lox was also deeeelicous and the photo would’ve been better had @dannygoldberg_ not been breathing down my neck to get his hands on it.

Ed has lots of outstanding bagels to try (I especially liked the sesame and looooved the sweet cinnamon🤤🤤🤤) and so much more on the menu that we didn’t get to.
Need to save something for next time.

And TBH just go and say hi to Ed and give him a hug, he’s such a great guy who also happens to be a very proud Jew who is so courageous in standing up for Israel 💙💙💙. Gotta love that!
